Is Consumption Culture Stopping us From Moving to Renewable Energy?

The need to start investing in renewable energy is becoming massive as oil prices going up while fossil fuel reservoirs are getting scarce. But what stops the developing countries that have very limited natural resources from taking the initiative?

With globalization, came the consumption culture that dominated the social behavior  of societies and individuals, where they got addicted to it in a way that it became extremely difficult to quit it. People now are defining necessities that were considered luxury a century ago, or even 40 years ago in some countries. This global society of consumers is only benefiting the capitalists who are selling overpriced commodities to people who spend credit card money on things they don't really need.

In energy sector, people seems not caring about moving toward renewable energy. Obviously, they don't care about environment, but this is not my concern as well. Consumers' energy bill is rising rapidly, which gives them one thing to complain about; but they seem very understanding! In the mean time, Energy companies are not only reluctant to transfer their efforts away from fossil fuel, but they fight tooth and nail to stop, or at least delay, such transition. Why? Consumption.

Corruption is one tool in their plot. In developing countries, those capitalists are using their influence to seduce the politicians who tempt to move a single foot on the route of alternative energy resources. Renewable energy is not consumable, and adopting it will kill the goose that lays golden eggs. The tools that programmed to function as massive consumption machines; aka people, need to start revolution against their way of life in order to be liberated from Capitalist Masters. After all, it's us who pay the price.
