Musical Chairs

Years ago, Taliban was not recognized the world over. Only three countries agreed to have a representatives of  Taliban on their territories; Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and UAE. At the time, Qatar resided on the liberal wing of the region, fighting their own battle to host US forces base on their land.

While Osama Bin Laden videos found their way to be aired on Al Jazeera when the Internet was not as available as of today, an invasion was being orchestrated in Al-Sailiya and Al Udeid bases near Doha, targeted Afghanistan then Iraq. Later, Abu Dhabi hosted many Taliban and Iraqi Ba'ath veterans.

In 2006, Hamas dominated the seats of PLC. Hence was entitled to form the Palestinian government, and it did. Regardless of the consequences, this re-raised an old flag from the 1990's, where Islamists in Algeria won the elections, then were overruled by the army there, which ignited a conflict lasted for a decade and harvested thousands of souls there. Hamas victory made it a fact; elections bring Islamists to power. Therefore, a series of actions must be effectively taken, concerned parties thought. Consequently, an international blockade was forced on Gaza, the strong base of Hamas, to let it be an example to the people who would think of electing Islamists.

Apparently, people don't learn from others mistakes. After a dominos-like uprisings in the Arab world wishfully named 'Arab Spring', elections brought MB and other Islamist factions to the parliaments of these moving countries. Those people must get taught a lesson, it was decided. Out of this mess, an alliance came into the lights (actually to the shadows), leading a war on these changes in order to maintain the system and the regimes.

With personal obsessions playing a major role, those countries who used to sound like the voice of reason started to play a different tune. Thereafter, this place was vacant and must be filled immediately. After all, everybody needs a mediator able talk to those who we don't talk to. Eventually, there are things to negotiate with MB, Hamas, Al Nusra front, Taliban, and maybe ISIS. Hence comes Qatar.
